In October 2010, the Portuguese Ministry of Public Works, Transport and Communications (MOPTC) launched a public consultation, closing on 25 November 2010, on the use of infrastructure in the context of rural next generation networks (NGN) and on the provision of wholesale offers by the entities to which the referred NGN were awarded.
Launching the consultation through the office of the Assistant Secretary of State for Public Works and Communications, the Government aims to achieve two objectives:
- Enable the manifestation of provision of entities with available infrastructure, or infrastructure to be made available in the period between 2010-2012, which could provide support for the development of the networks covered by the tenders (North, Centre, Alentejo and Algarve, Azores and Madeira);
- Compile intentions with regard to the use of the wholesale services to be made available by the entities who were awarded the tenders in question, by entities which plan to use them for the provision of final services to residential customers in these areas.
