The Communications Committee (COCOM) met last 15 February in Brussels. The European Commission provided information about transposition of the regulatory framework in the various European Union (EU) member states, besides discussing section 3 of article 5 of the Privacy Directive on the confidential nature of communications and the provisions of section 3 of article 22 of the Universal Service Directive on minimum quality of service requirements to impose on companies and on personal data protection.
Also presented and discussed were the Commission Communication on Universal Service, implementation of the 112 number, the last gathering of broadband data and a report from the working group on authorisations and spectrum refarming. Likewise considered were the terms of reference for the COCOM working groups, specifically the WGs on Emergency Access, Radio Broadcasting Issues, Authorisations, Market Data and INCOM.
