Framework
According to its statutes, ANACOM is charged with the following:
- Collaborating in the definition of the civil emergency planning policy of the communications sector;
- Providing technical support to the bodies and services responsible for the process of establishing and managing the integrated network of emergency communications.
The ANACOM has a further specific remit regarding the functioning of telecommunications networks and services in situations of emergency or force majeure, as well as to ensure telephone access to emergency services, including through the single European emergency number 112.
ANACOM is also represented at the sectoral emergency planning committee - Comissão de Planeamento de Emergência das Comunicações by the Chairman of its Board of Directors, who presides over this committee and in this capacity participates as a member in the Conselho Nacional de Planeamento Civil de Emergência (National Council for Civil Emergency Planning).
