Radio communication
Transmission of sounds, images, writing or other information by radioelectric waves.Radio Determination Service
In portuguese, Serviço de Radiodeterminação (RDT). Radiocommunication service for the purpose of radio determination.Radio Regulations / Règlement des Radiocommunications
Abbreviation: RR. Radio Regulations of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU).Radiocommunication Service
A service involving the transmission, emission and/or reception of radio waves for specific telecommunication purposes.Latest update: 10.12.2009
Radiocommunications station
One or several transmitters or receivers, or a set of transmitters or receivers, including accessory equipment, in operational state, required to provide a radiocommunications or radio-astronomy service at a given location.Latest update: 09.12.2009
Radiodetermination
The determination of the position, velocity and/or other characteristics of an object, or the obtaining of information relating to these parameters, by means of the propagation properties of radio waves.Latest update: 10.12.2009
Radiodetermination-Satellite Service
In portuguese, Serviço de Radiodeterminação por Satélite (RDT-S). A radiocommunication service for the purpose of radiodetermination involving the use of one or more space stations. This service may also include feeder links necessary for its own operation.Latest update: 10.12.2009
Radioelectric Radiation
Flow of energy produced from a transmitting source in the form of radio electric waves.Radiolocation Satellite Service
In portuguese, Serviço de Radiolocalização por Satélite (RLC-S). Radio determination service by satellite for the purpose of radiolocation. This service can also include bundles necessary for its functioning.Radiolocation Service
In portuguese, Serviço de Radiolocalização (RLC). Radio determination service for the purpose of radiolocation.Radionavigation Service
In portuguese, Serviço de Radionavegação (RV). Radio determination service for the purpose of radionavigation.Radionavigation-Satellite Service
In portuguese, Serviço de Radionavegação por Satélite (RVS). A radiodetermination-satellite service used for the purpose of radionavigation. This service may also include feeder links necessary for its operation.Latest update: 10.12.2009
RAM - Random Access Memory
Information is stored in semi-conductor chips which can be read and recorded by a microprocessor and other devices. Access to various positions of the memory does not have to follow any specific order.RDS - Radio Data System
The RDS system, whose technical specifications are set out by European standard EN 50067 of CENELEC, was developed to be applied to the radio broadcasting service on FM, stereo or mono transmissions. Its main objective is the improvement of the functionality of FM receptors and to make them more user friendly. Among other facilities, the display of the name of the programme channel (PS-Programme service) is automatically tuned by portable radios or car radios where applicable.Read Only Memory (ROM)
Chip which contains information programmed by the manufacturer, which can be read but not changed by the user.Real Time
Inexistence of any time delay (which might be perceived by the user) between the execution of a command on the part of the user and the effective reaction on the part of the application or access device used, in the course of using a determined service.Receiving provider
Company to which the subscriber switches, ''importing'' the respective numbering resources.Redundancy
Excess information which may be eliminated without disturbing the main information to be transmitted, so as to economise on transmission resources. May also describe a connection which may be establish using more than one alternative trajectory.Regulatel
Foro Latinoamericano de Entes Reguladores de Telecomunicaciones - Latin American Forum of Telecommunication Regulatory Bodies.Remote Control
System of controlling the functioning of a device from a distance using telecommunications.Repeater
Device used to strengthen the level of a digital input signal to be retransmitted which has been weakened due to the distance it has already travelled.Resolution
Level of detail which can be seen in an image on a monitor or on a printed page for example. The resolution of a television screen measures the number of horizontal lines of elements of the image and the number of pixels per line which the screen displays.Retransmission
Simultaneous transmission to one or more reception points of a signal which in turn was received from a single point of origin.Return call
Option of requesting a new call be placed to a busy number as soon as it becomes available.Return Channel
Additional resource which provides interactivity in determined communication systems with some limitations of bidirectionality. Through this channel the users can send command instructions, messages or information to the operator (for example, the telephone network can be used to provide the return channel to a cable television service or digital terrestrial television, in order to provide bidirectional services).Return link
For instantaneous communication of the director's instructions to other parties, namely presenters, interviewers, camera operators, sound operators and lighting engineers. May use several channels simultaneously to cover different activities. Usually uses constant transmissions.Right to use of telecommunications services
Everyone has the right to use public use telecommunications services, by paying the corresponding prices and tariffs, pursuant to the observation of applicable laws and regulations. With the limits imposed by their nature and purpose, the inviobility and confidentiality of telecommunications services for public use is guaranteed by law.Rigid Tube
Tube which cannot be bent, or only by the actions of mechanical means, with or without special treatment.Ring Network
Network topology in which transmission support forms a closed circuit and data circulates in only one direction.ROM - Read Only Memory
Chip which contains information programmed by the manufacturer, which can be read but not changed by the user.Router
Equipment responsible for the routing of information packets from their origin to their destination, in a packet switching network. A part of the connections between branches of the Internet network is made with this type of equipment.Routing
Establishment of a communication channel based on a choice between several available branches of a communication network.Russian Global Orbiting Navigation Satellite System (GLONASS)
Russian Global Orbiting Navigation Satellite System - Russian Satellite Radionavigation system.|
