RDS - Radio Data System

The RDS system, whose technical specifications are set out by European standard EN 50067 of CENELEC, was developed to be applied to the radio broadcasting service on FM, stereo or mono transmissions. Its main objective is the improvement of the functionality of FM receptors and to make them more user friendly. Among other facilities, the display of the name of the programme channel (PS-Programme service) is automatically tuned by portable radios or car radios where applicable.
