ITU Centre of Excellence
Subsequent to a Memorandum of Understanding, signed in December 2007, ANACOM and the ITU agreed to establish the ITU Centre of Excellence in Africa for the Portuguese and Spanish speaking countries, which also receives sponsorship from the Spanish Government.
This new Centre of Excellence in Africa has the objective of providing training programmes in areas identified as priorities, contributing to greater autonomy of the communications sector in beneficiary countries and creating mechanisms of training self-sustainability in these countries through the qualification of the telecommunications sector's managers and executives.
Initially, the Centre of Excellence will have branches in Mozambique and Cape Verde, and may come to expand. It is expected that a platform will be set up for distance learning (e-learning) so that other beneficiaries will have access to training, including East Timor.
This new Centre of Excellence is the seventh of a similar nature to be implemented by the ITU as part of a network of centres that, since 2003, has provided sector training to more than 15 thousand professionals. 13 training programmes have been scheduled to take place in 2012.
