Radio coverage
PMR networks are normally meant to cover limited areas in which the holder’s activity is carried out, using own infrastructures: networks only with mobile stations (installed in vehicles or portable) and networks only with one base station and mobile or portable stations. In special cases, coverage may be increased by the use of various base stations, interconnected or not, placed in strategic locations to obtain better coverage reach in the network service area.
Limited standard-areas are defined for the theoretical coverage of each base station, according to the band in which the emission frequencies are assigned.
The use of the existing infrastructure in a determined place, under a sharing regime, is recommended whenever technically possible. Such may include support structures, cables, filters, antennas and buildings. At the site of a shared installation the identification of the users and the means to contact same should be exhibited on the outside in a very visible place, in accordance with article 23 sections 1 and 2 of Decree-Law no. 151-A/2000 of 2 June.
