The World Radiocommunication Conference (WRC-12) of the International Telecommunication Union has been scheduled to take place from 23 January 23 to 17 February 2012.
The ITU is a specialized agency of the United Nations (UN) for information and communication technologies, with the participation of 191 member states and over 700 sector members and associates (private sector) for the development of networks and telecommunications services. ANACOM, in accordance with its assignments, has participated in various activities of the Radiocommunication Sector (ITU-R), in order to monitor the activities of radio spectrum management and planning and, representing Portugal, to participate in the World Radiocommunication Conferences (WRCs).
The WRC takes place every three or four years. These Conferences, in addition to being charged with reviewing the Radiocommunications Regulations (RR), which is an international treaty signed by Portugal and which governs, from a technical point of view, and regulates the use of radio spectrum and satellite orbits, the Conference also has the aim of addressing radiocommunications issues of global concern, providing instructions to the Radio Regulations Board (RRB) and the Radiocommunication Bureau (BR) and reviewing their activities, determining the issues to be studied by the Radiocommunications Assembly (RA) and the Study Groups (SG) of the ITU-R for the preparation of future Conferences.
