Mobile communication services on board vessels - final decision

By determination of 6 January 2011, ANACOM gave approval to the final decision on the offer of mobile communication services on board vessels (MCV services).

The National Frequency Allocation Plan was altered accordingly in order to include the use of the 880-915/925-960 MHz and 1710-1785/1805-1880 MHz frequency bands, for MCV services when in the territorial sea, between two and twelve nautical miles from the baseline.

This decision also defines other aspects related with the provision of these services, including namely the type of authorisation (general authorisation regime) and the conditions of the offer, dispensation from licensing of the associated radiocommunication networks (without prejudice to the licensing act of the competent maritime authority) and from payment of the spectrum usage rates in relation to the identified frequencies.
