DTT - ANACOM intensifies campaign to provide information to citizens

On 2 January, ANACOM began a new phase of its awareness campaign on terrestrial digital television (DTT) in Portugal, with the aim of ensuring that people know what they need to do so that they will still be able to watch the four free-to-air television channels once analogue television signals have been switched off and the transition to digital television is complete.

ANACOM is receiving cooperation from CTT – Correios de Portugal in its campaign to raise awareness among the general population as to the switch to DTT.  CTT staff (post office counter staff and postmen) have been receiving training from ANACOM so that they are qualified to provide help to the local population.  This measure covers 54 municipalities, selected according to a set of socio-demographic indicators (such as proportion of elderly residents and average income, per municipality), indicators on DTT coverage and on coverage of the previous analogue signal and indicators on paid television subscription (such as penetration rate and market share by technology).

ANACOM has intensified its campaign in these 54 municipalities with the distribution of a letter explaining the procedures and conditions governing subsidies available for equipment (DTH DTT kit) that needs to be acquired by residents in areas where digital television reception will be provided by satellite (DTH areas).
