The Enterprise and Industry Directorate General (DG ENTR) of the European Commission (EC) has issued a call for proposals with the purpose of extending the European Mobile and Mobility Alliance (EMMIA) with a number of concrete and operational activities. The approach places special emphasis on promoting the further use of data and information from Earth monitoring and satellite navigation for which Europe is investigating massively through the Global Monitoring for Environment and Security (GMES) and European satellite navigation system (GALILEO) programmes.
The call for proposals consists of two strands, each with specific objectives:
- Strand 1: the development and testing of new voucher schemes aimed at promoting the availability of innovative services based on information and data from GMES and from the Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) (“Type B”).
These new voucher schemes could also aim at testing new forms of innovation support for mobile services companies developing new services based on GMES and GNSS (Type A).
Proposals for strand 1 should be submitted no later than 6 July 2012
- Strand 2: Large-scale implementation of innovative services based on GMES and GNSS to address specific societal challenges or to facilitate the emergence of new industries in a given region or metropolitan area.
Proposals to Strand 2 are to be presented over two phases: submission of a concept note by 27 June 2012 and submission of complete proposals by 4 October 2012.
Applications in response to the call should be presented by consortia of three to five partners, which must include a minimum of one public regional or metropolitan governmental organisation that is either responsible for or involved in the funding and/or implementation of a horizontal or specific innovation programme from which mobile services companies could benefit.
