BEREC - Statement on European Parliament's vote on Telecoms legislative proposals

The Body of European Regulators for Electronic Communications (BEREC) has published a Statement on the European Parliament’s vote on the proposed “Connected Continent" legislative package, presented by the European Commission with a view to establishing a single market in telecommunications.

BEREC welcomes the European Parliament’s general approach and particularly its position on the following aspects:

  • recognition of the need for a broad, careful and comprehensive assessment of the European regulatory framework;
  • the proposed deletion of some of the complex processes presented by the Commission and of some proposals on grounds of subsidiarity and proportionality;
  • the suggested increased consistency in the regulatory tasks of the national regulatory authorities (NRA).

BEREC notes that, in line with its statutory role, it will continue to examine the proposal and remains at the disposal of the legislators as they continue with this process.
