European Parliament adopts resolution on Digital Single Market

The European Parliament has adopted a Resolution "Towards a Digital Single Market Act" setting out its views on the "Digital Single Market Strategy for Europe", which was presented by the European Commission on 6 May 2015.

The document expresses the Parliament's concern about unjustified practices of geo-blocking and unfair price discrimination based on geographic location or nationality, and about the different national approaches adopted by Member States in regulating the Internet and the so-called "sharing economy."

Among other considerations, the Parliament stresses the importance of the next review of the Services Directive, together with the review of the telecommunications framework, setting out, as a priority, a harmonised spectrum framework that is conducive to competition and calling for the role, capacity and decisions of the Body of European Regulators for Electronic Communications (BEREC) to be strengthened.
