Safer Internet Day, organised by European Internet Safety Network (InSafe) and by the International Association of Internet Hotlines (INHOPE) was celebrated on 9 February 2016. The day is supported by the European Commission.
The event, whose theme for 2016 is "Play your part for a better internet", aims to raise awareness and spread information about safer use of the Internet by citizens, in particular children and young people.
Starting at a European level, Safer Internet Day has become an international event, and is currently held in more than 100 countries.
In Portugal, the Day’s activities are led by Centro Internet Segura (Safer Internet Centre), coordinated by FCT - Fundação para a Ciência e Tecnologia (Foundation for Science and Technology), which hosted a seminar on the theme of the celebrations on 4 February.
