Radio Spectrum Committee - Brussels

Brussels served as venue on 10 March for the 11th meeting of the Radio Spectrum Committee, which  was attended by representatives from the Member States and some countries and organisations with observer status.

The European Conference of Postal and Telecommunications Administrations (CEPT) presented reports on the work carried out under the European Commission mandates on various subjects, namely with respect to the decision on harmonising use of the 2.5 GHz band for IMT2000, short range and power applications (SRD), RLANs (radio local area networks), ERMES (European radio message system), UWB (ultra wide band) and the terrestrial flight telecommunication system (TFTS).

Note that the Member States were urged to comment on the new version of the European Commission decision concerning RLAN in 5 GHZ, which despite the participants? broad support raised some questions about those systems? compatibility with radars. Also presented was a Commission decision that will serve as support for the harmonised introduction of applications in the 169.4-169.8 MHz band, which was previously designated for the ERMES system.

The next meeting of this group will be held on 2 June.
