Illegal transmissions in Oporto - ANACOM closes FM Radio Station
The Autoridade Nacional de Comunicações (ANACOM) issued an order today, February 25, to close the radio station, Rádio Placard, in Oporto, due to the fact that its radio license has expired.
The closure order was issued after an inspection team from ANACOM visited the radio station's premises this morning and verified that the station continued to broadcast, despite not having a license, thus representing an illegal transmission.
The expiry of the respective radio license is a direct result of the decision of the Alta Autoridade para a Comunicação Social, the media regulatory body, to not renew Rádio Placard's operating license.
The fact was communicated to the Public Prosecution Service. Illegal radio transmissions may constitute a crime punishable with a prison sentence of up to three years, or a fine of up to 320 days.
