Title: State of Communications 2008
Summary:
This annual report provides an analysis of the state of electronic and postal communications in Portugal. This document is divided into two separate parts. Part I reports on the evolution of the electronic communications sector in the EU, providing an integrated perspective of the supply and demand of electronic communications services in Portugal, providing a service approach: fixed telephony, mobile telephone service, Internet access, and paid television distribution service. Part II of the report relates the situation of the postal services as at end 2008 and the trends that occurred throughout the year. Finally, the document includes a statistical annex.

Electronic Communications Services: Service normally provided for remuneration which consists wholly or mainly in the conveyance of signals on electronic communications networks, including telecommunications services and transmission services in networks used for broadcasting, without prejudice to the exclusion referred to in point b) of paragraph 1 of article 2 (Law no. 5/2004 of 10 February).
Telephone Service at a Fixed Location (FTS): In portuguese, Serviço Telefónico em Local Fixo (STF). Provision of direct voice transport to the general public in real time and at fixed locations, thereby allowing any user to communicate with another terminal point, through equipment connected to a terminal point in the network.
