Under the prevailing legal framework and as the regulatory authority for communications, ANACOM is responsible for performing functions of regulation, supervision and oversight in the postal sector. Pursuant to its Statutes and the law, it is also incumbent upon this Authority to provide updated information which contributes to an open and competitive market, including information on the prevailing regulatory framework, its powers and responsibilities, and on initiatives, as well as on the rights and obligations of communications providers and consumers.
Having regard to the several questions that increasingly have been posed, ANACOM has deemed appropriate to disclose, with some level of detail, its assignments in the postal sector, particularly as regards the provision of the universal postal service, thereby contributing towards a better clarification of the regulatory framework of the postal sector in Portugal.
