According to the results of the ''Quarterly barometer of electronic commerce in Portugal - 2nd quarter 2006'', recently released by Associação do Comércio Electrónico em Portugal (ACEP - Portuguese Association for E-commerce) and by the company Netsonda, e-commerce companies' turnover in Portugal grew in the second quarter of 2006.
According to the data that was now released, based on a survey made to the main companies of ACEP, about 75% of the surveyed e-commerce companies increased their Internet turnover between the second quarter of 2005 and the second quarter of 2006. This increase was of at least 50% for about 18% of the surveyed companies.
The study also shows that the number of clients who purchased on the Internet websites of the surveyed e-commerce companies grew vis-à-vis the same period of 2005. About 59% of the interviewed companies mention a customer increase between 1% and 50%, while about 11% of the companies had growths above 50%
Regarding investment made by the companies, about 70% of those interviewed maintained the investment made on their websites, compared with the same period of the previous year, and about 30% of the companies increased their investment.
Regarding the product and service categories that were mostly sold by those companies, the highlight goes to electronic products (including mobile phones), mentioned by about 41% of the interviewed companies, followed by computer products (32%) and videos and DVDs, mentioned by 29% of them.
