On 1 July 2012, ANACOM re-launched its campaign to provide information on international roaming, with the goal of informing consumers about the new maximum limits applicable to voice and SMS Eurotariffs, and in particular, about the creation of a new Eurotariff for data services (Internet and MMS). This campaign also brings consumers information on things they should do before travelling when planning to use mobile phones and access the Internet with roaming while abroad.
The campaign is being re-launched to coincide with the entry into force, on 1 July 2012, of Regulation III on international roaming, as adopted by the Council of the European Union on 30 May 2012. Under this Regulation, all mobile operators are required to offer their customers a data Eurotariff, applicable to roaming data communications within the European Economic Area1 (EEA).
Under the new Regulation, which applies for a period of ten years, a raft of measures has been adopted with a view to reducing intra-EEA roaming tariffs, with operators made subject to new price caps for voice communications, text messages (SMS) and data transmission (Internet and MMS). The adopted measures also aim to foster competition and ensure tariff transparency.
ANACOM's campaign will make use of a range of media, focusing on the roaminglight.nethttp://www.roaminglight.net/ website, where consumers can access a wealth of useful information and a set of tools which can be used to obtain information from all Portugal's mobile operators.

MMS - Multimedia Messaging Service: Text, image, animations and sound messages.
Roaming: International Roaming is a service that allows you to use your mobile phone abroad to make or receive voice calls, send or receive data (including SMS, MMS and Internet access) or gain access to other features associated with this type of service. The prices charged for communications in roaming are generally higher than the prices of communications within the national territory. This is because the foreign operator charges your home operator for the use of its network.
SMS - Short Message Service: Service of exchanging short messages, common in mobile communications networks. Allows the sending/receiving of text messages or small graphics.
