As the most recent price list presented by Portugal Telecom complies with the current laws regarding the fixing of prices, it has been approved by the Instituto das Comunicações de Portugal (ICP) and the Direcção Geral do Comércio e da Concorrência (DGCC). These new prices will come into effect on the 6st of February this year, allowing the nominal cost of local calls to be maintained - which is equivalent to a reduction in real terms in comparison to those practised in the year 2000. This list means that the low user discount schemewill also remain unchanged.

This new price list also means that the cost of calls for retired persons and pensioners whose income is lower than national minimum salary will not be subject to any price alteration. Similarly, no nominal variations will be made to the prices in the first scale of the low user discount scheme(equivalent to invoices for communications of PTE 1,536 or less, excluding VAT).

The price of local calls will remain unchanged. Regional calls will be reduced by 16.1%, inter-urban calls will be 14.5% cheaper and international calls will cost 10% less.

In absolute terms the cost of local calls will remain at PTE 4.00 per minute during the normal period and PTE 1.90 during the economic period. Regional calls will cost PTE 11.50 per minute during the normal period and PTE 5.50 during the economic period. Inter-urban calls will be reduced to PTE 18.00 per minute during the normal period and PTE 9.00 per minute during the economic period. An initial cost of PTE 16.00 will be added to these prices, representing a credit of 60 seconds for local calls, 20 seconds for regional calls and 10 seconds for inter-urban calls. These figures do not include VAT.

Monthly subscriptions will be increased by PTE 135.00 to PTE 2,375, excluding VAT, and represent a 4.5% increase.

The price per impulse remains at PTE 12.82 (excluding VAT) for coin-operated public telephones and PTE 11.11 (excluding VAT) for card-operated public telephones. Impulses for local calls continue to last for 180 seconds during both the normal and economic periods. Impulses for regional calls are increased to 46 seconds during the normal period and 92 seconds during the economic period. Impulses for inter-urban calls are increased to 30 seconds during the normal period and 60 seconds during the economic period. An initial cost of two impulses, representing a time credit, will be added to each of these prices.
