| NOTAS: | Like the markets in many other European countries, the Portuguese telecoms market is relatively stable in size, with very little growth in the fixed and mobile sectors. Mobile broadband remains the growth driver, with subscriptions increasing by 18.8% during 2011–12. The Portuguese regulatory framework has been stable over recent years, with the regulator, Autoridade Nacional de Comunicacoes (ANACOM), adhering to the EC’s 2009 framework. Its policies, such as the provisions on net neutrality in the recently amended Telecommunications Act, have aimed to improve consumer protection. Portugal has also made good progress in developing its current and next-generation broadband networks, and has met the targets set out in its national broadband plans. |
