NOTAS:

"On 23 September, Ecommerce Europe and EuroCommerce launched the 2021 European E-Commerce Report, in collaboration with the Centre for Market Insights (CMI) of the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences. After a brief presentation of the main research results by the Head Researcher, Sara Lone, the panellists discussed the e-commerce figures of 2020, a very special year due to COVID-19, and the future trends of the sector. E-commerce proved to be resilient and continued its growth in 2020, while accelerating the digital and sustainable transformation of many businesses and consumers. The discussion revolved around the fast development of omnichannel retail, which is expected to continue to grow in the future. According to the speakers, the digital transformation of the wider retail sector requires investments in sustainable and digital solutions and in digital skills, coupled with support from EU and national decision-makers. Moreover, the speakers addressed some key recommendations for policymakers to boost the digital and green transformation. These include a channel-neutral and future-proof approach, the spill-over effect of investment in retail that could benefit other ecosystems, the importance of a level-playing field between EU-based and non-EU based players, the harmonisation of EU rules and investments in digital skills."
