NOTAS:

"Gigabit fixed broadband services (at least 1Gbps) are everywhere now – offered by more than a hundred service providers in all major regions of the world. Countries like Singapore even have multiple 10Gbps competitors. But communications service providers (CSPs) are faced with a dilemma. There is still no consumer application that is bandwidth-hungry enough to truly drive customer demand to gigabit services – and that isn't going to change over the next five years. Some disrupters have flourished, using gigabit services to take market share from incumbents. But others – typically incumbents – have been forced to spend hundreds of millions of dollars on defensive FTTP network upgrades and yet enjoyed only a moderate increase in revenues. Gigabit services are possible now with cheaper and quicker network upgrades. Incumbents hoping for a revenue uplift, however, will need to target gigabit services at enterprises, new customer segments (including high-end gamers), and the wholesale market (e.g., for backhaul purposes)."
