fixed wholesale. However, the transition to LTE will provide new opportunities for wholesalers:
Backhaul capacity demand will increase and so will connections between cell sites and small cells.
Further ahead, a transition to centralized RAN (C-RAN) and cloud RAN promises opportunities to
connect front-haul with centralized RANs and remote radio heads (RRHs) for cloud RANs. However,
these opportunities come with challenges, particularly around pricing. Wholesalers need to find ways
to provide backhaul solutions for operators that are economically viable. For small cells, they will need
to go beyond backhaul and become involved in site acquisition." |
