The impact of smartphones on mobile networks [documento eletrónico] / Nick Dillon

PUBLICAÇÃO:

NOTAS:

"The rapid growth in smartphone use has been both a blessing and a curse for mobile network operators. On one hand it has driven uptake of data services and more expensive contracts; on the other it has affected the performance of operators’ networks, in some cases bringing them to their knees. The degradation of network performance has been caused by the dramatic rise of network signaling traffic which is generated by smartphones, but unlike mobile data cannot be monetized by operators. Advances in network technologies have brought some relief to mobile operators, but these do not address the root cause of the issue, which comes from outside the control of the mobile operators – from handset manufacturers, smartphone software platforms, and application developers. While this has mainly been an issue for mobile operators so far, if it is not addressed more fully it will impact everyone involved in the mobile ecosystem."
