"This report and CD-ROM package contains the research carried out for a workshop on the Economic and Regulatory Implications of Broadband, held at ITU, in Geneva, from 2 to 4 May 2001, as part of ITU's New Initiatives Programme. The report summarizes the issues discussed at the Workshop. The CD-ROM contains the 40-page background paper, specially commissioned country case studies on Australia, Italy, Malaysia and South Africa, the background resources gathered during research and the presentations made at the Workshop. The accompanying brochure contains a report of the Workshop. The full package provides perhaps the most in-depth study yet carried out into the current state of broadband deployment worldwide, covering both DSL (digital subscriber line) and cable modem technologies, as well as the likely barriers to further growth."
