| NOTAS: | "The goal of this report is to document and describe the findings of the study undertaken by the DG JRC together with DG CNECT to develop common indicators for measuring the environmental footprint of electronic communications networks (ECNs) for the provision of electronic communications services (ECSs). More specifically, the study has the objectives to 1) analyse the sustainability of fixed and wireless telecommunications networks in terms of environment, climate, energy consumption and energy efficiency, 2) to identify sustainability indicators which can be commonly collected and reported across Europe, 3) to prepare the ground for a Code of Conduct (Q4 2025) for the telecommunications sector and 4) to prepare the ground for a Code of Conduct (Q4 2025) for the telecommunications sector. This report provides an extensive analysis on 19 sustainability indicators in the context of telecommunication networks. The scope of the report is related to the network infrastructure and equipment of mobile and fixed telecommunicatio n infrastructures and it does not include users’ equipment like mobile phones or customer premises equipment (CPE). It does not include non-terrestrial network (i.e., satellite communication networks). The indicators are related to the whole lifecycle of telecommunication networks and equipment and not only the operational phase." |
