"This Manual was published in 2002 by the ITU in pursuance of Article S20 of the Radio Regulations. Appendix S16 to these Regulations states that all ship stations shall be provided with this publication. It contains relevant extracts from the International Telecommunication Convention in force, the Radio Regulations, ITU-R and ITU-T Recommendations, as well as from the International Telecommunication Regulations. These extracts cover all matters dealt with by the ITU which are of interest to operators in the maritime services. They are updated at regular intervals to provide the latest information on operational and technical changes, such as introduction of the GMDSS - the new global maritime distress and safety system." |
