NOTAS:

"European television is showing several positive signs. Most economies are improving, with the dollar a lot weaker against local currencies and the Euro than it was a year ago. In May 2004, 10 countries are due to join the EU, which should lead to high economic growth and investment in coming years. The cable and satellite sectors have seen much activity in terms of consolidation and debt restructuring. This will result in stronger companies that have the resources to upgrade their networks and fully market their services. New services will include extras such as PVRs and on-demand television. However, consumers in many of the more established cable countries are proving resistant to digital upgrades, with some governments overregulating in an effort to protect consumers interests. The rapid advances in DSL penetration have led to the added benefit of broadcast services via DSL. This is expected to be a fast growth sector in coming years, though the operators will have to counter entrenched opposition from the established cable and satellite areas. Italy has the largest broadband TV market thanks to Fastweb. Telcos in other countries are quickly taking up the challenge, including several players in France and BT in the UK."
