Working Party on Point-to-Area Propagation (WP 3K)

The annual meeting of WP-3K was held on 18-28 October in Geneva, with the main goal of studying aspects of propagation in point-area connections.

The following specific tasks were to be undertaken at this meeting:

  • Modification of recommendations ITU-R P.1238 and P.1411;
  • Modification of recommendation ITU-R P.1546;
  • Modification of recommendation ITU-R P.1410;
  • Creation of a draft new recommendation (DNR) for UWB (ultra wideband);
  • Preparation of liaison with other working parties (WP).

As usual, the work was split among four subgroups and culminated with the decision to modify the following recommendations:

  • ITU-R P.1546 ? modify the expression that defines TCA (terrain correction angle) and the calculation method for mixed paths;
  • ITU-R  P. 1411 ? include vegetation attenuation effects and benefits of diversity to reduce precipitation effects;
  • ITU-R P. 1238 ? again study the effect of construction materials on propagation, given that new data has been presented;
  • ITU-R P. 1411 ? include propagation above rooftops in SHF;
  • A DNR was generated on UWB.
