Aimed at young people aged 9 to 15 years, the "Letter-writing'' competition is conducted annually in Portugal by ANACOM and CTT - Correios de Portugal, as part of the international initiative of the Universal Postal Union (UPU). The winning Portuguese letter will go on to represent Portugal in the international competition, where it will compete directly with winning letters from other UPU member countries.
The competition seeks to encourage Portuguese writing and learning, encouraging young people to write an original composition on the competition's theme in form of a letter.
Participants in the competition are admitted on an individual basis and group entries are not allowed. The winners in each category receive a prize, presented during the celebrations of World Post Day.
