Emergency communications


ANACOM inherits the assignments and powers conferred on CPEC - Comissão de Planeamento de Emergência das Comunicações (Emergency Communications Planning Committee) and takes on its functions of emergency civil planning, including:

  • ensuring that access to emergency services is continuously maintained;
  • contributing to the definition of emergency civil planning policies in the communications sector and to keeping policies dated at all times;
  • providing technical support to agencies and departments which are responsible for overseeing the process of establishing and managing the integrated emergency communications network;

ANACOM also maintains specific powers and responsibilities as regards the operation of telecommunications networks and services in emergency situations or in the event of force majeure, and also as regards telephone access to the emergency services, including access by means of the single European emergency number (112).
