Personal Radio Service - Citizen's Band (CB) is a radio service for private use, used for multilateral communications of a recreational or professional nature by holders of low-power radio stations.

Decree-Law no. 1/2017 of 5 Januaryhttps://www.anacom.pt/render.jsp?contentId=1402289 has lifted the requirement for registration of users of CB stations.

CB stations were exempt from licencing, and instead governed by the general rules applicable to the licencing of radiocommunications networks and stations, approved by Decree-Law no. 151-A/2000 of 20 July, amended and republished by Decree-Law no. 264/2009 of 28 Septemberhttps://www.anacom.pt/render.jsp?contentId=1021644 and amended by Law no. 20/2012 of 14 Mayhttps://www.anacom.pt/render.jsp?contentId=1186754 and by Law no. 82-B / 2014 of 31 Decemberhttps://www.anacom.pt/render.jsp?contentId=1343270.

On 27 December 2023, ANACOM approved the amendments to the technical requirements for the operation of Citizen’s Band (CB) personal radio stations and the corresponding update of the National Frequency Allocation Table (NFAT).

These amendments will allow data and picture transmission (slow scan television) on channels 6 (frequency 27.025 MHz), 7 (frequency 27.035 MHz), 24 (frequency 7.235 MHz) and 25 (frequency 27.245 MHz), although these channels can still be used for voice communications.

ANACOM’s decision follows several expressions of interest in the inclusion of digital modes in the Citizens’ Band, in particular from a number of citizens and amateur radio associations.
