Beyond its regulatory and oversight activities, ICP-ANACOM is endowed under terms of article 6 of its statutes, approved by Decree-Law no. 309/2001 of 7 December, with several other duties, of which the following stand out:
- To assist the Government, upon its request or on own initiative, in the definition of strategic guidelines and general policies for communications, including the issuance of opinions and the drafting of legislation in the field of communications;
- To participate in overall strategic definition of communications development, specifically in the context of the convergence of telecommunications, the media and information technologies;
- To promote technical standardisation, together with other organisations, in the communications sector and related areas.
These attributions substantiate ANACOM?s duty to advise the Government, in which it takes part in co-ordinating and preparing several legislative and regulatory processes, carries out advisory actions and collaborates in the planning and definition of sector policies.
