Radio spectrum management

/ Updated on 11.10.2019

ANACOM is responsible for managing the radio spectrum, established under Article 15 of the Electronic Communications Law (Law no. 5/2004https://www.anacom.pt/render.jsp?contentId=975162 of 10 February, in its current wording).

As such, ANACOM is to make a plan of frequencies and, in particular, undertake their allocation and assignment according to objective, transparent and non-discriminatory criteria and in accordance with the principle of proportionality.

Thus, each year, ANACOM publishes the National Frequency Allocation Plan (NFAP), in order to make information available on the use of the spectrum and the application in Portugal of international agreements in this area. This publication, based on national and international agreements, provides information on spectrum allocation for the various applicable radiocommunication services in Portugal and details used and planned services and systems, notwithstanding subsequent ANACOM decisions. The NFAP also contains information on the use of frequencies, publicly available or not, and on the reserved frequency bands and their respective means of allocation.
