ANACOM and Civil Protection sign cooperation protocol


On 4 May, Autoridade Nacional de Comunicações (ANACOM) and ANPC - Autoridade Nacional de Protecção Civil (National Civil protection Authority) signed a cooperation protocol at a ceremony held at the head office of ANPC, in Carnaxide, with Vasco Franco, Secretary of State for Civil Protection, presiding.

The objective of the protocol is to establish cooperation mechanisms between the parties, seeking to develop the public communications component of the National Communication Civil Protection Plan and put it into operation.  In accordance with current legislation, this component is to be supported through the public electronic communications networks and services.

Under this cooperation protocol, the parties agree to work together in the preparation of studies according to the remit of each authority and in areas of common interest, in the participation of civil protection exercises at a national and other levels, and to engage in joint participation in protection and emergency operations with respect to the Integrated Emergency and Protection Operations System (DIOPS).

As such, the parties undertake to make available all data and information in their possession needed for the conduct of the associated studies and to develop tasks which, in accordance with their remit, are needed for the proper implementation of the relevant conclusions and/or recommendations which result.

ANACOM and ANPC further agreed to prepare a national study, limited initially to the mainland and conducted at a district level, with the aim of defining the requirements which the public communications component of the National Communication Civil Protection Plan needs to satisfy.
