World Telecommunication and Information Society Day will be celebrated this year on 17 May, with the theme chosen by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), where ANACOM provides national representation, as ''Better city, better life with ICTs''. This theme seeks to call attention to the role that information and communication technologies (ICT) can play as a driver of improved living conditions in future urban environments.

At a national and institutional level, the commemorations will be held at Fundação Portuguesa das Comunicações (FPC) in Lisbon, on 17 May, and will be attended by the Minister of Public Works, Transport and Communications, António Mendonça, the Chairman of ANACOM and also Chairman of the FPC General Council, José Amado da Silva, and the Executive Commissioner of the National Celebrations Committee of the Centenary of the Republic (CNCCR), Fernanda Rollo.
