The presentations made by Mário Lino, Minister of Public Works, Transport and Communications, on 18 December 2007 in Brussels, at the meetings of the European Parliament's Committee on Industry, Research and Energy and Committee on Transport and Tourism, are now available for consultation.
Mário Lino affirmed that, with Portugal's leadership, the entirety of the programme, proposed for the communications area, had been accomplished; he gave the example of the agreement reached by the 27 Member States of the European Union (EU) on the Galileo project, which constitutes an essential piece of infrastructure for ensuring the autonomy of the Union in satellite navigation and positioning technologies.
Mário Lino also pointed out the conclusions on Mobile Television, the general approach to the GSM directive and the coordination of a common community position for the 2007 World Radiocommunications Conference (WRC-07).
Finally, with respect to the postal sector, Mário Lino highlighted the importance of the common position on postal services in guaranteeing the accomplishment of the universal service, transparent access to the postal services market and the social protection of workers.
