Portugal signs Common European Proposals to be put forward at WTDC-10


As representative of the Portuguese Administration at the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), a specialist agency of the United Nations, ANACOM has signed the Common European Proposals (CEP) which will be discussed at the upcoming World Telecommunication Development Conference (WTDC), to be held in Hyderabad (India) from 24 May to 4 June 2010.

These CEPs cover the following:

  • CEP1 – proposed new Resolution containing the procedures for the appointment and limitation of the mandates of the chairs and vice-chairs of the study groups of the Telecommunication Development Sector (ITU-D) and the respective advisory group (TDAG);
     
  • CEP2 – introduction of a new issue for study by ITU-D Study Group 2 on the role of information and communication technologies (ICT) in reducing the impact of climate change;
     
  • CEP3 – proposed new Resolution on the creation of a regional initiative on e-accessibility for people with special needs;
     
  • CEP4 – proposal for revision of Resolution 6 on private sector participation in the activity of the ITU-D.

These CEPs were adopted as part of the process of preparing for WTDC, an activity undertaken in the Committee charged with achieving European coordination with a view to participation in the activities of the ITU (Com-ITU) of the European Conference of Postal and Telecommunications Administrations (CEPT), in particular in the meetings of the project team set up specifically to prepare for the WTDC.
