ERG/IRG - common position and public consultations

A meeting of the Plenary of the European Regulators Group (ERG) and of the Independent Regulators Group (IRG) was held on 6 and 7 December 2007, with the approval of a range of measures aimed at improving the functioning of the telecommunications market, including a common ERG position on the harmonised application of rules on Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) services.

The ERG also gave approval to the 2008 work programme and to the launch of two public consultations, which have in the meantime been published: one on the draft common position on symmetry of mobile/fixed call termination rates, closing on 25 January 2008; and the second on ERG Report on best practices on regulatory regimes in wholesale unbundled access and bitstream access, also closing on 25 January 2008.

Interested parties should send their comments to the ERG secretariat, by email to e-mail address. erg@ec.europa.eu with ''ERG CP MTR FTR 2008'' or ''ERG REPORT WLA/WBA 2008'', in the subject line.

Finally, the IRG decided that it will become subject to Belgian law, in order to improve the collective resources available to National Regulatory Authorities (NRAs).
