The first Seminar of the Portuguese Committee of URSI, entitled ''Radiocommunications - New paradigms and health impact'', was taking place on 28 of November in the Rectory of Universidade Nova de Lisboa.
The event's opening session was being attended by José Amado da Silva, Chairman of ANACOM and Maria Luísa Mendes Chairwoman of URSI, who will also lead the closing session.
The programme covers a range of relevant issues, including the effects of mobile telephones on hearing aids, the evaluation of electromagnetic fields, the importance of radio metrology, non-ionizing radiation and the monIT project, which will be covered by experts including specialists from the Directorate-General for Health, the medicine faculty of Universidade do Porto, the Telecommunications Institute of Universidade de Aveiro, the Telecommunications Institute of Instituto Superior Técnico and from ANACOM.
The afternoon's proceedings will be devoted to the presentation of works submitted following the call for papers launched by the Portuguese Committee of URSI in August of this year.
During the event, a poster session will be held in the lobby of articles also submitted following the call for papers, with the authors available to present their works and clear up any queries.
