WRC-07 - Review of first week of proceedings

At the first plenary session of the 2007 World Radiocommunication Conference (WRC-07), underway since 22 October, approval was given to the proposed structure of the conference, with six committees: Steering, Credentials, Budget, Future Agenda and Work Programme, Editorial and two committees for Specified agenda items. Due to the complexity of some of issues being addressed, it was also necessary to set up various working groups and sub-groups.

In the view of the extension of the WRC-07 agenda and with consideration to the national priorities defined during national preparatory discussions, Portugal's national delegation is, as a priority, attending meetings where the following issues are being discussed: third generation mobile communications (IMT-2000), spectrum related to aeronautical command, telecommunication systems on board aircraft, HF bands and the report of the Director of the Radiocommunication Bureau (BR).

National representatives have participated in a number of different coordination meetings held by the European Conference of Postal and Telecommunications Administrations (CEPT) with the aim of reaching a commitment between the regional organisation's member countries. With Portugal currently holding the Presidency of the Council of the European Union, the national delegation has also been involved with addressing those issues that demand coordination at a community level.
