ANACOM Conference - opening of proceedings and online transmission

The ANACOM Conference, ''Regulating Convergence - Converging Regulation'', is taking place today in the Large Auditorium of Culturgest in Lisbon. Held as part of the programme of the Portuguese Presidency of the Council of the European Union and attended by the Minister of Public Works, Transport and Communications, the conference will also be transmitted on line.

The conference opens at 9.30 with a session attended by the European Commission Director-General for Information Society and Media and by the heads of national regulatory authorities and other key bodies. Following an extended period of debate, proceedings are expected to draw to a close at 6pm.

The Conference is a unique opportunity for broad and topical debate on the challenges faced by regulators as a result of the issues of the day. The topics to be discussed include next generation network development and access, competition in emerging markets, the development of new business models, the application of new institutional regulation models, radio spectrum management policy, and also the implication of these new realities for citizens in general, especially within the scope of the provision of the universal service of electronic communications.
