Portugal subscribes to common European proposals to be presented at PP-10 of ITU

As representative of the Portuguese Administration at the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), a specialist agency of the United Nations, ANACOM has signed the common European proposals (CEP) which will be presented at the Plenipotentiary Conference (PP-10), to be held in Guadalajara (Mexico), from 4 to 22 October 2010.

These CEPs focus on the following issues:

  • CEP1 (ICT and climate change) - calls on ITU to adopt a leadership role in the application of information and communication technologies (ICT) in solving problems of climate change;

  • CEP2 (Resolution 86) - proposal not to amend the procedures of publication, coordination, notification and registration of the allocation of frequencies to satellite networks;

  • CEP13 (Telecommunication Standardization Advisory Group - TSAG) - aims at the maintenance of the TSAG’s function under current terms;

  • CEP4 (ITU Telecom) - aims at the revision of the function of exhibitions/forums conducted by the ITU;

  • CEP5 (Financial implication) - proposal, worded by Portugal, which creates the mechanisms needed for the inclusion of an estimate of costs in proposals submitted to conferences, assemblies and meetings of the ITU;

  • CEP6 (Management and allocation of IPV6) - seeks to encourage the development of IPV6.

These CEPs were adopted as part of the process of regional preparation for PP-10, an activity which is conducted in the Committee charged with European coordination with respect to participation in the activities of the ITU (Com-ITU) of the European Conference of Postal and Telecommunications Administrations (CEPT).
