ERG Plenary and adopted decisions

The 24th plenary meeting of the European Regulators Group (ERG) has taken place in Gothenburg, Sweden. The meeting, which held on 28 and 29 February 2008, debated a range of topics including regulation of fixed and mobile communications, consumer empowerment and delivering competition in the leased line market.

A common position was adopted, with regard to the regulation of fixed and mobile communications, on fixed and mobile termination rates, as well as a decision to continue the work on setting mobile termination rates, with results of this work due shortly.

On the consumer, the ERG unanimously agreed that there is a need for clearer price information for communication services and, regarding transparency for customer, considered that the various systems and mechanisms to ensure transparency should be studied. The group decided to analyse these best practices.

Finally with respect to competition in the leased line market, the ERG adopted a common position on wholesale leased line remedies. According to the ERG, this document, which is due for publication in March, will make a contribution to the development of this issue in the European telecoms market.

Meanwhile, Matthias Kurth, head of the German regulator (BNetzA) has been elected to Chair the ERG in 2009.
