Safer Internet Day

Safer Internet Day, an annual event organised by Insafe, the European network of e-safety awareness nodes, a network dedicated to the development of projects aiming to raise awareness among citizens about safer internet use, was celebrated on 12 February. Portugal has been part of Insafe since 2004, participating in international events and in activities associated with European Safer Internet Day.

As part of this year’s celebrations, Insafe organised the 2008 Safe Internet competition on the theme “Life online is what you make of it”, with the youth of various countries invited to create a multimedia project. The events are organised nationally by the various competent national bodies, with the Safer Internet project taking on this responsibility in Portugal.

Meanwhile the European Commission (EC) is organising the Youth Forum on Safer Internet, to be held in Brussels, with young people from nine European countries participating in a debate on issues connected to the use of online technologies and presenting recommendation, including to the Commissioner for Consumer Protection.
