Frequency Usage rights reserved for BWA - final decision


On 24 January 2008, ANACOM approved the consultation report on the limitation of the number of frequency usage rights reserved for Broadband Wireless Access (BWA) in the 3400-3800 MHz frequency bands and on the respective allocation procedure.

The final decision which has now been approved covers the following measures:

  • To limit the number of new frequency usage rights reserved for BWA, taking into account the division of territory into zones as set forth in the annex to Order no 1062/2004 of 25 August as follows:

    • two frequency usage rights in each geographic zone, each corresponding to 1 block of 2x28 MHz, in the 3400 3600 MHz sub-band;

    • two frequency usage rights in each geographic zone, each corresponding to 1 block of 2x28 MHz, in the 3600-3800 MHz sub-band.
            
  • To define the allocation procedure of these frequency usage rights as being by auction.
          
  • To amend the National Frequency Allocation Plan (NFAP) accordingly.

Simultaneously, approval was given to the specifications of the consultation limited to the definition and support to the implementation of the spectrum auction model.
