ANACOM authorises LTE, GSM and DVB-H technical trials

Following a request made by Nokia Siemens Networks Portugal, ANACOM has granted temporary authorisation to the company to carry out technical trials and demonstrations, with waiver of licence, of stations using LTE (Long Term Evolution), GSM (second generation mobile telecommunication) and DVB-H (digital television for reception by mobile terminals), for the period between 18 and 25 May 2007.

The spectrum authorised for this purpose is as follows:

  • 2,630 MHz and 2,560 MHz, for the demonstration of solutions using LTE technology;
  • 1,767.8 MHz and 1,862.8 MHz, for the demonstration of solutions using GSM technology;
  • 542-550 MHz (channel 30) or alternatively 702-710 MHz (canal 50), for the demonstration of solutions using DVB-H technology.

This authorization does not imply any commitment, obligation or constraint regarding the future allocation by ANACOM of rights to use frequencies in Portugal reserved for digital terrestrial television or for land digital radio broadcasting.

ANACOM will accompany the trials and have access to their conclusions, both from a technological standpoint and also in terms of the effective market potential of services based on these technologies.
