Free access to ITU-T Recommendations

The International Telecommunication Union (ITU) has made all the Recommendations of the ITU Telecommunication Standardization Sector (ITU-T) available on its website, free of charge. The Recommendations can be accessed in PDF format and are available for a trial period until September. Take up of initiative will then be assessed by the meeting of the ITU Council and it will decided whether free access to the Recommendations should be provided on a permanent basis.

The Recommendations of the ITU-T define, in particular, how telecommunication networks operate and interwork. There are over 3000 of these recommendations currently in force, representing an important and comprehensive body of work that involves a large number of the Standardization Sector's Member States. Although Recommendations are non-binding, due to their high levels of quality, they are widely adopted.

For the time being access to the Recommendations of the ITU's other two sectors, the Radiocommunication Sector (ITU-R) and the Telecommunication Development Sector (ITU-D) will still be charged.
