OECD releases 2006 broadband statistics

The Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) has released the results of the latest ''Broadband Statistics'' report - a statistical report that presents a range of data on the current situation and trends seen in broadband internet access and use in OECD countries in 2006.

One of the key findings of this report is the increase seen in the number of broadband subscribers in OECD countries. The number of subscribers grew by 26 per cent in 2006, from 157 million in December 2005 to around 197 million in December 2006. This growth translates to an increase in the OECD broadband penetration rate, which rose from 13.5 subscribers per 100 inhabitants in December 2005 to 16.9 as at the end of 2006.

The data released by the OECD also reveals that Portugal's broadband penetration rate rose by 20% between December 2005 and December 2006, rising from 11.5 subscribers per 100 inhabitants to stand at 13.8 at the end of the year.
